Is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) dangerous to our health?

Is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) dangerous to our health?

This forthcoming article by Roberto De Vogli and Noemi Renzetti (to be submitted to Epidemiologia & Prevenzione, rivista dell’ Associazione italiana di epidemiologia) explores benefits and disadvantages of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) related to future health conditions in Europe and the USA.

Key findings in terms of fracking:

  • The most serious health effect of the TTIP regards its capability to affect environmental policies.
  • The TTIP can actually restrain the development of stronger environmental laws and encourage the extraction and export of fossil fuels such oil and gas.
  • The ISDS provision is very likely to be exploited by large fossil fuel companies to sue governments that try to limit extraction and exportation of these fossil fuels.
